The United States of America has fifty states and a federal district. It also has several territories, that are scattered around the Caribbean and Pacific.
Forty-eight states and Washington, D.C., the capital district, lie in central North America between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The state of Alaska is in the northwest of the continent with Canada to its east. Hawaii is in the mid-Pacific
The United States is bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south.
National Flag
The flag of the United States of America consists of 13 red and white stripes and 50 small white stars. The 50 stars represent the current states and the 13 stripes represent the original Colonies that became the first states. Nicknames for the flag include "the Stars and Stripes" and "Old Glory".
