The official colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green & gold. These colors were chosen in 1872.

	Purple represents Justice.
	Green represents Faith.
	Gold represents Power.

"Mardi Gras" is French for "Fat Tuesday," the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday; the last day prior to Lent; the beginning of a 40 day season of prayer and fasting observed by the Roman Catholic Church.
